内容説明
Published with Israel on the verge of celebrating 50 years of statehood, this is a history and atlas of the young Jewish nation from ancient Palestine to the continuing peace. Correspondents of "The New York Times", including five Pulitzer Prize winners, examine the political, military and social evolution of Israeli statehood. There are reports of major historical events, including British rule, the Israeli War of Independence, the Yom Kippur War, PLO terrorism, Camp David, and the ever-changing confluence of religion and politics that the Middle East has become. In addition, selected and edited articles and photographs from the archives of "The New York Times" are included. Israel's variable borders, settlements and conflicts over the past five decades are displayed in 50 maps by an historical cartographer.
