Here is an original, contemporary, and gendered look at kinship terminology and cross-cousin marriage in Tamil Nadu. Specifically, this ethnography profiles a prominent mercantile class known as the Nagarattar--a people notable for both their entrepreneurial success in the modern world and their adherence to long-standing values, rituals, and family traditions. The book offers a useful as well as readable perspective of womanhood in South India.
