This text conceptualizes the role of business in shaping societies in a changing world order and in canvassing the strategic implications of this for business actors. It presents the results of a transnational study on the role of business in democratic transitions and economic development conducted over several years by the Institute for the Study of Economic Culture of Boston University in the United States and the Centre for Development and Enterprise in Johannesburg, South Africa.
