Description
This book is the first critical edition of any of George Meredith's prose or fiction. The texts include Meredith's Essay on Comedy and three novella-length stories -- The House on the Beach, The Case of General Ople and Lady Camper, and The Tale of Chloe. Included in this volume's editorial apparatus is a complete listing of editorial emendations, as well as detailed information about Meredith's revisions and the publishing history of each text.
