Susan Kelly's extensive introduction discusses the history of the see, its endowment and its bishops, the history of the archive, and the manuscript evidence. Also included is an analysis of the sequence and date of the Anglo-Saxon rulers of Sussex, for which the Selsey archive is the primary source.
