Description
The enforcement of competition laws in the European Union's "federal" context has raised a number of complex problems. In April 1996 the Robert Schuman Centre at the European University Institute in Florence provided a forum for the exchange of ideas on these problems. This volume consists of the collected papers and edited transcripts on antitrust rules in a "federal" context. The workshop was attended by a group of high level officials from the world's major competition enforcement authorities, judges with expertise in competition law, and several scholars and private practitioners specializing in competition issues. They addressed such topics as: the need for a greater multiplicity of antitrust enforcers in the European Union; the need for decentralization of enforcement of Article 85; and the need for horizontal co-operation between the Commission and the Member States. The volume should be of interest to enforcement authorities, private practitioners specializing in competition law, and other antitrust personnel working in jurisdictions with dual enforcement systems.
