Description and Table of Contents
Description
The opening up of Eastern Europe to Western investment, transport issues such as road congestion and environmental pollution, the transport needs of the mobility-impaired, the growing trend towards light rail, and road pricing are all current topics familiar to everyone in urban transport. The first section of the book details the systems themselves, describing metro, light rail, commuter rail, bus, trolleybus, ferry and paratransit services for over 400 cities in more than 110 countries. Data includes fleet size, routes operated, operating costs, service frequency and facilities for elderly and disabled people. Complete contact details and the key officials of each transport authority are given. The second section is dedicated to manufacturers, consultants and contracting services worldwide - over 850 companies in all. Products covered range from complete road and rail vehicles, components and sub-assemblies to fixed equipment for signalling, communications and traffic control. All entries contain important technical specifications, key executives names and full addresses. The 1991 edition is fully revised and coverage of Eastern Europe has been expanded.
Illustrated throughout, it also includes a collection of over 60 city maps showing metro and light rail, and details of the situation in unified Berlin.
