内容説明
This book is a study in the economic history of Sabah and Sarawak since the 19th century. Three decades after merging with Peninsular Malaysia, these states are still dependent on the production and export of a relatively small range of primary products. Of these, timber exports and their impact on the environment have come under considerable scrutiny from environmentalists and international and local pressure groups. This book examines economic strategy in these states since the 1880s, demonstrating that the roots of the problems in the 1980s lay in policies formulated in the wider context of capitalist economic growth.
