Description and Table of Contents

Description

Since 1984, when W. Knight et al. discovered the electron shell structure in metallic clusters, not only materials scientists but also many nuclear physicists have become interested in metallic clusters as finite quantum systems similar to atomic nuclei. The present volume discusses the physics of metallic clusters from the viewpoint of those similarities and also points up differences. A remarkable variety of topics are covered, ranging from the quantum and thermal properties of free clusters to high energy impacts of clusters on solid surfaces.
