This is an examination of the parties embroiled in the controversy generated by Richard Aldington's 1955 biography of Lawrence of Arabia. It shows how Aldington discovered that Lawrence had conspired with others to maintain the "Lawrence legend", and how others surpressed Aldington's findings.
