内容説明

This guide presents an analysis of the questions which have arisen from the first phase of library automation. Using a selection of case studies representing a range of library systems and institutions, it examines the experience of migration to the newer generation of systems and assesses the impact of the Internet. The book has a broad scope and international perspective, including material from academic, public and special libraries and examples from Britain, the USA and Europe. It looks at organizational context, political issues, automation history, technical background, data conversion, people issues and training. It also includes a practical "dos and don'ts" checklist. The text should be of value to all library and information workers and should make an addition to library school reading lists. It should also be of interest to professionals working in academic, public and special libraries, as well as library system suppliers involved in library automation projects.
