Description
The neural control of airways is complex and recently a number of important advances have been made in the understanding of the mechanisms involved. These new aspects in the understanding of the cholinergic, adrenergic and neuropeptide control of airway function (including the nose) are covered in detail, as is the role of nerves in airway disease, rhinitis and the therapeutic implications of the new observations.
Table of Contents
- Innervation of the airways
- distribution of neuropeptides in airways
- afferent nerves in the airways
- the cholinergic control of airways
- autonomic ganglia
- adrenergic nerves and receptors
- neuromodulation in airways
- innervation of airway smooth muscle
- neural control of the airway vasculature
- neurogenic inflammation in the airways
- neural control of the upper respiratory tract
- abnormal autonomic control in respiratory disease.
