内容説明

Provencal troubadour poetry may not be known to English readers, unaware of the "trovador" tradition of the Iberian Peninsula. Some 1685 "cantigas" (sung poems) in Galician-Portuguese from the 12th to 14th centuries survive in "cancioneiros" (song books). Their language was that of lyric poets in every region but Catalonia. One of the main types of love songs is the "cantiga d'amigo", from an oral tradition native to the peninsula and sung from the woman's point of view. Satirical songs, on the other hand, provide insights into the history and politics of the day, or deal in invective and ribald fun, arguably more daring than the work of poets today. This title in the "Aspects of Portugal" series is a dual language edition featuring 113 examples of this major European tradition.
