内容説明

From the British occupation of Egypt in 1882 until the Suez War of 1956, Britain and Egypt sought a sound framework for their relationship. The most significant milestone in this search was the Anglo-Eygptian Treaty of 1936 - of crucial importance for Egypt's internal development, Britain's imperial strategy, and the future of the Middle East. The story of how the Treaty was made, of the arguments among Egyptian and British politicians, military experts and diplomatists, is told in this edition of the diary of the British High Commissioner and Ambassador, Sir Miles Lampson (later Lord Killearn). This record of Lampson's daily thoughts and dealing provides much information about both Egyptian politics and the conduct of "the old diplomacy", and the history of the British Empire.
