Description

This workbook, which complements the authors' "Descriptive Cataloging Workbook", gives structured practice in subject cataloguing. Subject cataloguing in most libraries consists of two different but related tasks: assigning subject headings and assigning classification numbers to materials. Because LC subject headings and classification system and the Dewey classification system are widely used in American libraries, this workbook focuses on the principles and application of those systems. The first part of the book introduces subject heading, classification, MARC tagging and coding and subject cataloguing strategies. The second part contains exercises and answers. Each exercise has title-page, dust-jacket, preface and/or table of contents information. Formats include both book and non-book items.
