Description and Table of Contents

Description

A reinterpretation of the architectural principles (the architectonics) of the Renaissance period, this text presents views on the use of symmetry and proportion in Alberti and Palladio, with the help of illustrations and examples. The subsequent development of the Renaissance tradition into the 20th century, in the light of this evaluation, leads away from Le Corbusier and the French school (Wittkower's position) and towards its continuation and transformation in the Viennese and Chicago practices exemplified by Frank Lloyd Wright and the American school.
