This study seeks to show that Baudelaire's poetic masterpiece Les Fleurs du mal is structured coherently and necessarily. The author argues that Baudelaire believed it constituted "a perfect whole." Beyond the meanings of the individual poems, there is a meaning that we ignore at substantial cost.
