Description and Table of Contents

Description

Every section of this standard guide has been updated, with particular attention being given to the pages on the police, legal aid, the emergency laws, coroners' courts, judicial review, fair employment and law reform. Further tables and statistics have been inserted to help explain some points and additional comparisons have been made with the legal systems in the rest of Britain and Ireland. This new edition begins by explaining how the province came to possess its own legal system and how that system is administered today. There are then detailed descriptions of how laws are made for Northern Ireland. Later chapters cover the workings of the criminal courts, the civil courts and other special courts such as coroners' courts, as well as tribunals and watchdog institutions. There is list of useful addresses, extensive guidance on finding more information, and samples of different types of laws and documents.
