Description
At the same time as international trade in goods and services has been liberalized and a global economy has emerged, international flows of labour and people have also substantially increased. These two flows are usually analyzed as separate phenomena but international movement of goods and services and international movement of people are closely related. This book sets out the direct and indirect links between the migration of people and the movement of goods and services in the world economy. It focuses on the APEC region, the most rapidly growing region in the world. The nature of these links, movements within regional and sub-regional organizations such as NAFTA and CER, the emerging policies of Japan and the Asians NICs (as new countries of destination), and the long-term consequences of these migration and trade flows are just some of the issues examined.
