Description
This is a welcome reissue of a classic selection of Australian short stories, first published half a century ago. The anthology includes fifty-two stories written by forty-eight leading writers. Because of the popularity of the short story form in newspapers and magazines such as Bulletin and Steele Rudd's Magazine, Australian writers early excelled at the genre. Classic Australian Short Stories was first published in the World's Classics series in 1951 and was reprinted several times throughout the 1950s. The earliest story dates the late nineteenth century and the latest from 1946. Key authors include Henry Lawson, 'Steele Rudd', Henry Handel Richardson, Katharine Susannah Prichard, Alan Marshall, and Jon Cleary.
