内容説明

Mosby?s Pocket Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health is the only pocket-sized dictionary with a strong emphasis on nursing and allied health terminology. It is derived from Mosby?s Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health Dictionary and includes nearly all terms defined in our large dictionary. Definitions in Mosby?s Pocket Dictionary of Medicine, Nursing, and Allied Health are condensed and shortened to incorporate only essential information. Word roots and pronunciations are included where appropriate, to help the reader learn and correctly use medical terminology. Screened ?thumb tabs? assist in quickly locating definitions, and a hard yet flexible cover increases the dictionary?s durability. Our pocket dictionary offers a less expensive alternative to students and practitioners who seek a comprehensive resource at a lower cost or who prefer the convenience of its size. Since cost is major factor in students? decisions regarding purchase of a ?medical? dictionary and since many students want to be able to conveniently carry a dictionary with them to class, these features are compelling for many students. The revision of the pocket dictionary is based on the recently published fifth edition of Mosby?s Medical, Nursing, and Allied Health Dictionary. Approximately 4,800 new definitions have been added, and existing definitions have been revised based on extensive reviewer comments. A list of commonly used abbreviations has been added to the front and back endsheets, to increase the dictionary?s usefulness as a reference. Features: * Emphasis on nursing and allied health terminology makes this the most useful pocket dictionary for students and practitioners in the nursing and allied health professions. * Its small size makes the pocket dictionary easy to transport, so it is available when needed. * Definitions are concise for quick reference. * The large number of definitions ensures that needed information will be available. * Definitions are included for all NANDA-approved nursing diagnoses, including those from the Twelfth Conference (1996). * Pronunciations are provided for key entries to help the reader use terminology correctly in everyday practice. * Etymologies are included for most entries to help the reader understand medical terminology and build a professional vocabulary. * Screened thumb tabs assist in quickly locating entries. * A flexible hard cover increases the pocket dictionary?s durability. New to this edition: * Approximately 4,800 new definitions have been added, representing all areas of nursing, medicine, and allied health. * Nursing diagnosis entries have been updated or added to reflect changes in terminology incorporated at the Twelfth National Conference in 1996. * Definitions have been added for all NIC (Nursing Interventions Classifications) interventions, to allow for easy access to this material. * British spellings have been added for key terms to assist the reader in recognizing alternate spellings. * A list of commonly used abbreviations has been added to the front and back endsheets, to increase the dictionary?s usefulness as a reference. * Existing entries have been reviewed and revised, as appropriate, to ensure accuracy and currency of content.
