Description
For over 30 years anyone needing information on British and Irish libraries has been able to turn to this directory for the answer. Annually updated, it lists more than 2000 libraries in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Republic of Ireland, with contact names, addresses, telephone, fax and e-mail numbers. The listing is broken down into three main categories, all indexed by name and subject: public library authorities, with entries for headquarters libraries plus the main administrative, divisional, area and regional libraries; children's, youth and Schools Library Services, which lists public library services for children and young people with full contact details; universities and institutes of higher education and other degree-awarding institutions, with entries for major departmental and site/campus libraries; and selected government, national and special libraries, together with departments of librarianship and information science.
New features of this edition will be: comprehensive coverage of all the public library systems within the new 1997 unitary authorities in England, Scotland and Wales, and a Stop Press supplement covering the latest news of 1998 unitary authority reorganization. The directory provides a source of information for all practising librarians and information professionals, as well as for the general reader and for organizations wishing to target UK library services.
