Description
he Basics of Speech addresses a very important skill--communication. This introductory text addresses interpersonal and group communication, public speaking, debate, parliamentary procedure, and oral interpretation. Based on the concept that oral communication is a skill learned by doing, students are involved in thinking and expressing themselves from the first to the last chapter. Objectives contain specific learning goals set at the beginning of each chapter. Key Words list important words that are introduced in the chapter. Observe are assignments designed to help students develop analytic skills. Interact activities involve communication between at least two people. Apply offers students an opportunity to pause and think about the reading and perhaps to apply it to their own frame of reference. Journal Entries feature actual diary entries written by teenagers relating to the chapter topic. Checklists are important self-assessment checklists to help students understand how the content relates to them. Speaking Of contains profiles of teens who use communication competencies in leadership positions in their schools and communities.
