内容説明
From rafting wild rivers in Sumatra to tribal dances in Borneo, photographs and narratives chronicle the authors' journeys to eight of Indonesia's island regions, revealing the cultural and environmental diversity of the world's fifth-largest nation, which encompasses some 13,000 islands. Teeming cities, soaring rain forests, rare species of wildlife, and peoples who are modern-day survivors of the Stone Age form the back drop for the exploration and adventures of Richard Bangs and Christian Kallen. Bangs and Kallen inpendently visited areas to the West and East of Bali, the archetypal paradise located almost dead centre in the Indonesian Archipelago. Bangs explored Bali and territories to the West, the "islands of fire", where his adventures included rafting the wild Alas River in Sumatra; climbing three volcanoes in Java - including legendary Krakatau; dancing with descendants of headhunters in Kalimantran (Borneo) and hiking along the coastline of Southern Bali. Kallen visited the "island of spice". He recounts travelling to a traditional Toraja funeral in Sulawesi; sailing the islands of Nusa Tenggara and Maluku; and stepping back into the Stone Age in Irian Jaya (New Guinea).
