Description and Table of Contents
Description
Presenting works from the John Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles, USA, this volume includes masterpieces from the 10th to the 16th century as the centrepieces of this collection of manuscripts produced in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean. Among the highlights are four Ottoman manuscripts, Romanesque treasures from Germany, Italy and France, an English Gothic Apocalypse, and late medieval manuscripts painted by such masters as Jean Fouquet and Joris Hoefnagel. Included are devotional books for private use, books of the Bible, histories by Giovanni Boccaccio and Jean Froissart, and pages from the 16th-century "Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta". The book is one of a series of seven volumes that present the finest works from The Getty Center in Los Angeles, USA which opened in late 1997.
