Description
The four books in the series are aimed at older teenagers and adult learners of American English in an international context and take the student from beginning to intermediate level. They use international settings, characters and language use, reflecting the needs of learners using American English as a lingua franca in their own countries and elsewhere. Like the first book in the series, this has 13 main units, "Optional Extra" activities and two "Check your Progress" sections which can be used as tests. It is designed for a 40- to 60-hour semester. The book aims to balance the acquisition of new language through listening and reading input with student-centred activities for grammatical accuracy, pronunciation and the development of fluent speaking skills. It aims to give students a sound grounding in grammar and pronunciation at the same time as having freer communicative skills. There is also an accompanying teacher's resource book, activity book, set of cassettes and a student home study cassette available for each level. The author has more than 15 years' experience of EFL/ESL classroom teaching as well as teacher-training experience.
He also has a PhD in TEFL/Applied Linguistics. He has taught in Europe, South America and the Middle East.
