Description and Table of Contents

Description

Migotti's study is intended both as a background for a future thorough investigation of the early Christian period in Croatia, as well as an aid to academics whose lack of knowledge of written Croatian may have hindered their acquaintance with modern understanding of the subject. The emphasis is on reconstructing the period prevalently in its material aspects, to prove that it is mistaken to see southern Pannonia as an area untouched on the whole by early Christianity. Catalogue descriptions of the various finds are accompanied by lots of photographs and line drawings and include everything from small decorative finds, to horse equipment, pottery, sarcophagi and church fittings. There is a useful introductory section on the political and historical background of the Church, and the conclusion includes ideas about spiritual and social aspects of early Christianity based on the material evidence.
