Intended for one-semester courses in human biology or general biology using a human systems model, this text presents the basic principles and applies them to students' lives. The authors aim to help students understand their everyday experiences with their bodies and the world around them. Features include Applications chapters, focusing on health problems and augmenting the Concepts chapters. Topics such as Alzheimer's disease, drugs and sexually transmitted diseases are covered due to their potential effect on students and their families. Social Issue questions look at what society's policy decisions should be and, integrated throughout, issues such as the waiting lists for transplant donors show students how to relate the information learned in the classroom to the choices faced in everyday life.
