This volume offers an overview of the most important contemporary art museum buildings, designed by internationally renowned architects, such as: Kunsthaus in Bergenz; the Getty Center in Los Angeles; and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. It explores the architecture of each museum in detail. Conversations with architects reveal the the wide spectrum of design in contemporary museum building. In the Pavilion at the Beyeler Foundation, the interaction of nature, light and the presentation of art is an impressive experience. Jean Nouvel perceives the museum as a public place, bringing the various areas of "urban chaos" into contact with each other. A total of eight projects are presented each of which differs completely in function and size.
