Description
Presenting 21 of the recent works of the Basque sculptor Cristina Iglesias, this is the catalogue of her 1997 museum exhibition in the USA. The exhibition reopened at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, in January 1998, before moving to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao the following summer. Iglesias uses concrete, iron, glass and other industrial materials in her large-scale sculpture and more delicate works. In her installations, she seeks to redefine the gallery space, beckoning viewers to walk around, and sometimes through, her sculpture. She also creates large photo-based silkscreens that depict miniature models of her sculptural works which serve to blur further the distinction between natural environment and constructed space.
