Organized by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and co-sponsored by the Hazards Forum and the Institute of Fire and Safety, this text presents the proceedings of a conference which allowed for the exchange of current ideas between industrialist and academic researchers in the area. It covers a number of aspects such as fire prevention, containment and protection. Specific topics include: modern approaches to design against fire, including lessons recently learned and adopted; high-temperature performance of materials; analytical assessment; and legislative views.
