内容説明
This text examines every aspect of disease association, epidemiology and identification for the "enterobacteriaceae" - the group of organisms responsible for more than 70 per cent of all community- and hospital-acquired infections. Coverage includes type of infection, clinical syndromes associated with each agent, and their laboratory identification. The laboratory identification section presents an overview of standard procedures, plus an in-depth look at identification techniques, unusual reactions observed in the laboratory, and protocols for screening "hard-to-identify" groups such as the five recognized groups of escherichia coli involved in gastroenteritis. There are illustrations which demonstrate important elements of disease associations, pathogenesis, and the cultural and microscopic morphology of infectious agents. Each chapter is broken down into six important areas: taxonomy; epidemiology; clinical significance; laboratory identification; pathogenicity; and antimicrobial susceptibility.
