内容説明

The first part of this text traces the development of Gypsy music during the long migration of professional Gypsy musicians form India to Spain over many centuries. it describes the influence of professional Gypsy musicians on the music of Iran, Turkey, Greece and Hungary. Part two of the book deals with the history of the forced settlements and repression of the Gypsies from the end of the "Golden Age" in the time of Ferdinand and Isabella to the end of the 18th century. Part three concentrates on a number of families in Lower Andulsia which over a period of three centuries have played a decisive role in the development of flamenco music. The final part summarizes existing theories on the origins of flamenco and reaffirms its origin in the music of the Gypsies. The book concludes with a bibliography, glossary and guide to audio and video recordings of flamenco music. This is the English edition of a volume in the "Interface Collection", a series on Gypsy history and culture commissioned by the Centre for Gypsy Research in Paris, for use in schools and colleges throughout the European Union. This text is suitable for music teachers and students in schools and colleges, enthusiasts for flamenco music, and anybody with an interest in Spanish culture and history.
