内容説明

Clinical psychology is one of the fastest growing health care professions within the UK National Health Service, and is increasingly important in other parts of northern Europe and English-speaking countries. This book explains what clinical psychology is, and what clinical psychologists do, to a non-specialist but informed readership. It explains the conceptual framework which clinical psychologists adopt, the rationale behind their techniques, and uses detailed case studies and examples to illustrate their material. It provides further accessible reading and a glossary of terms, to introduce this growing area of work. The authors are all leading clinicians and researchers, and specialists in their fields. In line with previous editions, this third edition has been comprehensively revised and updated to take into account significant changes in the health care field. It also reflects the continued expansion of the profession of clinical psychology in the UK, Europe and elsewhere. A significant quantity of new material has been added including new chapters on clinical neuropsychology, physical disability and the work of the psychologist in general medical settings. Other significant new material covers changes to the training of clinical psychologists in the UK, psychological work with the severely mentally ill and developments in primary health care. From reviews of the second edition: This book presents an excellent, comprehensive overview of psychological interventions with clients in a variety of settings, and with differing types of difficulty. The role of the clinical psychologist is clearly described in a way that potentially makes an important contribution to interdisciplinary understanding. Journal of Advanced Nursing Not only does the book succeed to a large extent in explaining what clinical psychology is, it also covers the why, how, when, where, with whom and to what effect of applying psychology in a clinical setting. The Psychologist What is Clinical Psychology? provides a wealth of information about psychological assessment, treatment and evaluation, about psychological models and interventions, and about how they are applied in the various settings in which clinical psychologists work.
