This is an introduction to some of the significant experiences of environmental administration in urban areas, which have taken place in several countries in Africa and Latin America. The book also presents and discusses these experiences from several different, though equally important, perspectives. While containing critical analyses, the emphasis is placed on achievements and promising developments. The book is comprised of a series of papers written by researchers in the field of urban sustainability. It aims to be of interest to local administrators, policy-makers, town planners, urban researchers, environmentalists and academics.
