One of a series, this Spanish language guide combines the traditional reference grammar with a section on contemporary usage and a third part on vocabulary. Each third concentrates on demystifying areas of common error and confusion for the English speaker and on developing in the user an appreciation of key structures along with a sensitivity to nuance and authentic expression. Part 2 in particular promotes an awareness of register, providing a range of expressions to suit different needs - advising, offering, requesting etc - from the most formal usage to argot and vulgarism. The final word-master section extends productive skills in building on verbs and nouns to extend idiom, using synonyms, avoiding faux amis together with specialist vocabulary for topics such as computer sciences, banking, literature. All examples are fully translated and realia illustrates particular grammar/usage vocabulary points in practice.
