An organic chemist considering the use of enzymes first has to solve the problem of knowing which enzyme to use. This book helps to address this problem by focusing on the most useful enzymes - hydrolase and secondly, by the inclusion of an extensive listing of applications known, allowing organic chemists to make reasonable choices by analogy. It features summaries of the structures of hydrolases and shows how these structures can rationalize the observed selectivities, providing another way for chemists to choose hydrolases. Finally, it gives experimental guidelines for how to use the hydrolases, allowing organic chemists (and enzymologists) to quickly solve their synthetic problems.
