Description and Table of Contents
Description
Thoroughly revised and newly enhanced with web site addresses, the World Guide to Libraries lists more than 43,570 institutions in 196 countries. Included are national, federal, regional, university, and other academic, school, and public libraries that possess over 30,000 volumes (exceptions have been made for libraries in Third World countries). Special, governmental, parliamentary, religious, and business libraries endowed with 5,000 or more volumes are also documented. This unique directory is arranged by continent and country, and within each country, by type of library and city. A typical entry contains 15 descriptive elements, including the library's name in the original language and in English; the mailing and telegraph address; telephone, telex, and fax numbers; main and special collections; statistics on holdings; and participation data networks and/or interlibrary loan programs.
