From Pigalle to Preault is the first comprehensive study of sculpture produced in France between 1760 and 1840. Examining the momentous changes in form and meaning that occurred in this genre during this period, Alison West situates these developments within the context of the social upheavals leading to and following the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars. She traces important developments, such as the rise and fall of the neoclassical style, while applying new methodologies to the study of this subject.
