This wide-ranging book contains fascinating account of their research given at the 29th Congress of the International Union of Physiological Sciences in September 1983 by leading workers in many branches of physiology. The volume therefore presents a broad picture of the subject in a readable form. The articles range from a colourful account of the medical significance of Australian marsupials to the discovery of hormones in bacteria.
