Majapahit is one of the cornerstones of Balinese identity & has its origins in the coquest of Bali in 1343 by Gajah Mada & for at least the last 300 years the culture has been defined by its links to the high culture of Java exemplified by Majapahit.This paper seeks to show the extent of this influence in the late 20th C & its limitations.
