Description and Table of Contents

Description

This work aims to provide encyclopaedic coverage of the mechanisms, diagnosis and management of every type of headache - from tension-type to headache associated with life-threatening cerebrovascular disorders. More than 100 leading authorities review recent breakthroughs in research, drug development, acute treatment, and prophylaxis. Information is offered on the contemporary pharmacologic armamentarium, as well as on psychological, behavioural and other nonpharmacologic interventions. This edition includes new chapters on genetics of migraine, tension-type headache, and cluster headache; relevance of serotonin receptors to migraine treatment; novel compounds for acute migraine treatment; antiepileptic drugs in migraine prophylaxis; childhood syndromes related to migraine; neuroimaging of cluster headache; the relation between sleep and headache; and headache during pregnancy and lactation. Most of the previous edition's chapters have been revised, and several have been completely rewritten.
