Description
Australians have been responsible for a number of inventions and this dictionary provides comprehensive detail about them. "The Dictionary of Australian Inventions and Discoveries" covers more than 400 Australian inventions and discoveries and the brains behind them. The range is varied, from the stump jump plough to the atomic absorption spectrophotometer, from the ingenious inventions of the early outback settlers, to the development of specialized agricultural equipment in the early 20th century, and the recent pioneering work of the CSIRO. Each invention is described, the necessity which inspired it is outlined, the date of its development is given, and the men and women responsible credited.
