Description
Reporting to the West on significant developments in physics research, this journal presents reviews by eminent scientists from the former Soviet Union and will be of particular interest to research scientists who do not read Russian.
Single and Multiple ionization processes in collision of atoms, positive and negative ions colliding with electrons are considered in a wide range of incident-electron enerfies. Physical properties and scaling laws of the total ionization cross-sections are studied on the basis of available experimental data and theoretical approaches. Analytical formulae and fitting parameters for the ionization cross-sections and Maxwellian rate coefficients are given and these can be used for different physical applications. The role of electron-ionization in ion-atom collisions, which is of improtance in problems of accelerator physics, is also considered. Multiple ionization of atoms and ions by electron impact are studies in terms of the number of ejected electrons, the total number of the target electrons and threshold ionization energy.
