His profession kept changing with his fortunes and at one time he was involved with the Portuguese negotiations with the Marathas, and at another time negotiating between the British and Mugals. This volume presents the principal actions and observations of Manucci. He describes the Mugal court and its intrigues between the sons of Shah Jahan; the Mugal armies and operations; the customs of the people his lived and traveled among; the leading personages of the Mugal court and army, his interaction and negotiation with the various powers in India; his personal life; etcetera.
