Description
The Making of an Islamic Political Leader provides a rare glimpse of one of the most influential figures within political Islam over the past thirty years, Hasan al-Turabi of Sudan. In three separate interviews spanning a decade, Turabi discusses the evolution of the Islamic political movement, conflicts within the movement, his stance on human rights, international relations, womens place within the movement, and priorities for the future. Also included are a biographical chapter on Turabi and a paper by Turabi himself that lays out his political agenda. }Hasan al-Turabi of Sudan has been one of the most influential figures within political Islam over the past thirty years, having played a formative role in the successful reforms put forth by the Muslim Brotherhood and, more recently, by the Islamic National Front. His words and ideology, whether they have been adopted or rejected, have influenced all other Islamic political movements throughout the Arab and Muslim world. In The Making of an Islamic Political Leader, journalist Mohamed Hamdi provides a rare glimpse of Turabi.
In three separate interviews spanning a decade, Turabi discusses the evolution of the Islamic political movement, conflicts within the movement, his stance on human rights, international relations, womens place within the movement, and priorities for the future. Also included are a biographical chapter on Turabi and a paper by Turabi himself that lays out his political agenda. The result is an intriguing and important account of contemporary Islamist thought and its implementation, one that can be analyzed, evaluated, and critiqued by political scientists and policymakers. }
