内容説明

Investigates the problems that the Swedish Social Democratic Party, in contrast with most other comparable centre-left parties in Western Europe, has had with the issue of European integration. The text considers how, after decades of holding a sceptical approach to the European Community, a position in part predicated on the constraints of the Cold War, the party leadership changed its policy abruptly in 1990 and announced its intention to apply for membership. The author examines the historical background to that decision, questioning the general view that international structural forces were mainly responsible and instead, argues that the intensity of domestic crises were more influential.
