This entertaining and instructive anthology contains nearly 400 extracts from over 170 accounts of India left by travellers to the country from ancient times to the early twentieth-century. Most of the extracts are from writing in English, but the book also includes observations of travellers from Africa, West and Central Asia, China, the USA and Europe. The volume is arranged according to subjects providing a comprehensive picture of India through the ages.
