This text presents an examination of child abuse, considering it as a global problem. The text considers child abuse to include physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, Munchausen's disease by proxy, domestic violence, parental smoking and the consumption of drugs whilst pregnant. These issues are considered in countries such as Australia, Bulgaria, Chile, Croatia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Zimbabwe and New Zealand. Specific subjects tackled in the text include child protection law, the definition of child abuse, legal and management responses, dealing with the problems of sexual abuse and the protection and exploitation of girls.
