内容説明

Extensively revised for this edition, these essays combine to build a picture of Scottish history from the time of the Picts and the Britons, through the Wars of Independence, the Reformation and the time of the Covenanters, to the Union of the Parliaments in 1707 and the impact of industrialization on Victorian Scotland. Each contributor has prepared an individually styled exposition of the features of interest in a particular period, and as a whole the book is designed to demonstrate the importance of teaching and learning Scottish history in schools and universities. By the same token it has relevance to Scottish people generally, and to others who wish to understand them and the shaping of the Scottish nation.
